USAID is a major funder of bilateral donor programs in support of the development of Kosovo’s economy, society and governance.
USAID and US Embassy support for A.U.K. includes:
- An award of $400,000 to the American University in Kosovo Foundation in New York (AUKF) from the USAID American Schools and Hospitals Abroad program (ASHA) to help fund a dormitory at the American University in Kosovo (AUK) Germia Campus
- A grant of $40,000 from the US Embassy towards the opening in 2007 of AUK’s Library
- A further grant of $90,000 in 2008 towards the expansion of the Library and creation of a modern Media Center
- USAID minority scholarships to promote diversity among AUK’s student body
- A major program of scholarships for Kosovo government civil servants to pursue graduate study in public administration at AUK’s School of Public Service, beginning in January 2009
- Fulbright Scholar exchanges of faculty between AUK and leading US universities
- Funding for AUK students to work as extra English tutors to students at the Eqrem Cabej Languages High School, our neighbor at Germia
In addition, AUK hosts and staffs the office of the Kosovo United States Alumni (KUSA) association, a not-for-profit association of alumni of US government scholarship and travel programs. More information about KUSA can be found here.
