AUK > Overview

The American University in Kosovo is Kosovo’s only private, not for-profit university. It is the only Kosovo university teaching entirely in the English language, which helps us attract students from every community in Kosovo. And it is the only university whose degrees are accredited and recognized world-wide, thanks to our partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York.

But while our home is in Kosovo, and we are committed to developing Kosovo’s economy through education, we measure ourselves against the leading universities of South East Europe and the world.

AUK students come to us from 17 different countries around the world. AUK delivers the same excellent standard of American higher education that students receive at RIT – the same degree, the same syllabus, the same exams and grading standards – taught by many of the same faculty members.

AUK is a teaching university, not a research university. We do not offer Ph.D.s or other research degrees. Our job is to teach our students to the highest international standards, so that they receive an education which puts them on a level with their peers from the best universities in the United States or the European Union. When our students graduate they get good jobs, or move on to postgraduate study around the world. We measure our success by our graduates’ success: and they are very successful.
